ECB selects motifs for future euro banknotes! (Date posted: 2025-02-02)

The Governing Council of the ECB selected motifs to illustrate the two themes of the future euro banknotes. With regard to "European culture", the focus is on shared cultural sites and important personalities from Europe. "Rivers and birds" addresses the resilience and diversity of nature. European institutions would be depicted on the back of the banknotes on this theme.

Der EZB-Rat wählte Motive aus, um die beiden Themen der zukünftigen Euro-Banknoten zu veranschaulichen. In Bezug auf die „Europäische Kultur“ stehen gemeinsame kulturelle Stätten und bedeutende Persönlichkeiten aus Europa im Fokus. „Flüsse und Vögel“ thematisiert die Widerstandskraft und Vielfalt der Natur. Europäische Institutionen würden auf der Rückseite der Banknoten zu diesem Thema abgebildet sein.

Euro coin counterfeiting in 2008 (Date posted: 2009-01-13)

The total number of counterfeit euro coins removed from circulation in 2008 was 195.900, down from 211.100 the year before. While this development confirms the success of the action to render euro coins safer for the users, Member States should maintain and intensify efforts to remove counterfeits from circulation.
